About this map
Choose a UCSB major or minor and see every course in it on one page, in prerequisite order, with what each course needs and what it leads to.
How to read it
Steps. The required courses, and the courses from other departments they need, are listed in steps. A course's prerequisites are always in an earlier step. Steps are an order, not a schedule, so they work whether you started as a freshman, transferred or switched majors.
Electives follow the steps, one list for each set of electives, with its rule (for example "complete at least 6").
Point at or click a course. Red lines lead to it from everything it needs, all the way back; blue lines lead from it to what it unlocks; everything else fades. Clicking also opens the course's entry beside the map: its prerequisites in full and in the catalog's own words.
Getting back. Press esc , or "close" beside the entry, to see the whole map again. "← back" returns to the course you looked at before. "All programs" returns to the list.
Mark courses as taken, and the ones you can take next are marked "next".
How courses are marked
ECE 15A in red: needed by the course you've chosen
ECE 154A in blue: unlocked by it
CMPSC 8 † from another department, needed first
or MATH 3A take this course or the one named
✓ ECON 1 you've marked it taken
ECON 2 next you've taken what it needs
ECON 141 in the catalog but not offered now (shown only if you ask)
Planning quarter by quarter
"Plan" (next to the program names) lays your courses out by year and quarter. Click a course to add it: it goes in the first quarter after its prerequisites, when it's usually offered, under your unit limit. Auto-fill places the rest. Add grades to see your GPA, or read them from your GOLD transcript; the file never leaves your computer.
Your marks stay on your device
Courses you mark as taken are saved in your browser on this device only. They're never sent anywhere, and the site has no accounts and no analytics. Clearing your browser's data, or using a private window, removes the marks.
Sharing and saving
The address bar names the program and the course you've chosen, so you can copy it and send it. There is also a one-file copy of the whole site (8.7 MB) that opens in any browser, even offline. It's large for a phone, so it's best saved on a computer.
Where the data comes from
Everything comes from the UCSB General Catalog : the course list, each course's prerequisites, and each program's requirements. Course prerequisites are written in plain English in the catalog, so a program reads them into "all of" and "one of" rules. Program requirements are copied from the catalog's structured lists.
What it can't check
Grades. "C or better" is shown, but marking a course taken assumes you met the grade.
Conditions like class standing, major restrictions or instructor approval are listed, not checked. ECE 139, for example, has no course prerequisites in the catalog, only "open to EE and CE majors", so it sits with the other upper-division core courses.
Rules written as notes (for example "a maximum of 4 units of 199 courses") appear as text beside the map.
Some programs aren't here. The catalog doesn't list course requirements for College of Creative Studies majors, the individual major or Undeclared, so there's nothing to map.
Unclear wording. When the catalog mixes "and" and "or" without punctuation, the entry says the reading is a best guess and shows the original wording.
An unofficial student project
It isn't made or endorsed by UC Santa Barbara. Requirements change, and the catalog is the official source. Confirm your plan with your department advisor.
Credit you already have
Courses you have credit for count as done: their prerequisites are met on the map and in your plan. Saved in this browser only.
AP exams
Pick your score for each exam you took; leave the rest at “—”. From the catalog's AP chart ; scores of 1 or 2 earn no credit.

Your courses and grades go into your plan, finished courses with their grades and current ones as In Progress.
The file stays on your computer. It's read by this page in your browser, never uploaded, and not saved; only the courses you approve below are kept, in your plan. No GOLD login is ever needed.
